Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is from the fourth generation of Roberts family to have been a resident of Atlanta. It began with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was farmer. Her father was a theatre enthusiast since a young stage. When he was studying at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. Following his air force service In 1953, he starred in an air force production in Biloxi with Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, the couple married and in 1956 their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter along with his wife quit the Air Force in the year 1957 after which they began enrolment with Walter as a student at Tulane University. Walter started working at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning local television show that was aimed at children, known as Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964. This was a project they self-financed. Later that year they founded The Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. The couple had another two children. Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also called Lisa), and Julia Billingsley (1967) (also know by the name Julie).
