Tom Hanks-5-1024x767Hanks His next role, astronaut and commander Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - reunited him with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics as were the performances of the whole cast (which included Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris), and Kathleen Quinlan. The film also earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was the voice actor for Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated feature Toy Story (1995). A year later, Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The tale of the fall and rise of a 1960s rock group. Hanks also takes on the role of a music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming" and many experts agree that Hanks' performances earned him a spot among the top romantic-comedy stars his time.
